What is it?
Paws Republic's Advanced Obedience course focuses on gaining off leash dog training skills. We want you to be able to maintain control of your dog off leash at any distance without becoming dependent on an e-collar. We grow your skills by teaching you to have clear and concise communication with your dog, adding more distractions and temptations in a safe environment, and imrpoving your dogs focus and engagment with you. The class will be primarily run "off leash" with the dogs attached to lightweight lines that simulates the feeling of being off lead, without compromising safety.
Why do it?
For fun! But also to provide your dog with new challenges that will help them (and you!) combat the cold winter months. In addition to that, this class gives you the opportunity to continue to develop an incredibly close bond with your dog while you navigate new obstacles and methods of communication.
Who can come?
Anyone who has attended a "Beginner" or "Intermediate" level class (i.e. Real World Obedience Foundations/Next Level) or the equivalent is more than welcome to attend!Â
If you have attended obedience classes outside of Paws Republic and wish to sign up for our Advanced Obedience course we would ask that you email training@pawsrepublic.ca and chat first (just to make sure you've got a good grasp on the things that we require of the dogs in this class)!
This class will continue to utilize our ACT philosophy which incorporates fair and appropriate corrections as a compliment to lots and LOTS of praise. Â As always, our goal is to continue the development of enjoyable four-legged family members you love to live with (and who love to live with you) in addition to introducing new commands, experiences, and ideas for you to try with your furry companion.
Attending dogs must be up to date on vaccinations - including rabies - and must not be experiencing any major behavioural concerns at the time that class begins.Â
Please email training@pawsrepublic.ca if you would like to find out about options for dogs who are experiencing any behavioural challenges so that we can provide you with assistance prior to signing up for a group class!
Please Note: Dogs that have not reached full physical maturity are welcome to attend (it's a great time to start imprinting some of these behaviours!) however we will be limiting their jumping or any other potentially high impact component of the class in order to ensure that their developing joints are not compromised. They will still be able to participate in all activities, we will just adjust for safety :)Â
Space will be limited to a maximum of 6 dogs with one handler per dog.
Please note that full payment is required to reserve your spot in the class. Class cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will be subject to a late cancellation fee equal to your half your deposit. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our refund and cancellation policy!
We can't wait to see you there!
